Auction introduction: Liu Hankun (1912-1958) was the eldest son of Liu Guojun, a prominent figure in China's modern textile industry. Liu Guojun (1887-1978), also known as Jinsheng and with the courtesy name Lichuan, was born in Jingjiang, Jiangsu. He started his career as an apprentice and later became an entrepreneur, establishing his own textile and dyeing factories in Changzhou. Through mergers and the introduction of new technologies, Liu’s modernized enterprises became highly productive and gained recognition both domestically and internationally, earning him the title of "China's Textile King." After 1949, he held important positions such as delegate to National People's Congress, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, and Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference. In his spare time, Liu Guojun was an avid learner who had a deep appreciation for poetry and prose. He developed a close friendship with Qian Mingshan, a renowned scholar from his hometown, and sought his guidance in literary studies. Liu even hired Qian as a tutor for his children and set up his factory near Qian’s “Jiyuan” Academy. Inspired by Qian, he also developed a keen interest in collecting art. In the 1940s, he frequently interacted with prominent art collectors such as Qian Jingtang, Wu Hufan, Sun Boyuan, and Wong Nan-ping in Shanghai, often making valuable acquisitions. Liu’s collection, known as "Jing Xiu Tang" included exquisite works from the Song to Qing dynasties. Beyond his personal pursuits, he also actively promoted public welfare and education by donating funds to establish schools and benefit his hometown. He generously donated part of his collection to institutions such as the Nanjing Museum and the Changzhou Museum.
